George Russell falls from second to sixth at the restart. Over team radio he reports the car is undriveable, telling his engineers “We have no grip.” After his qualifying nightmare with the gearbox, Russell is now fighting a completely different problem in the race. Mercedes are having a very difficult afternoon with the number 63 car.

Arvid Lindblad loses the rear at Turn 14 and spins. The Racing Bulls driver has had a difficult race afternoon. He will lose positions and time as he recovers. No safety car called so far.

Contact Colapinto and Ocon Collide at Turn 14
Franco Colapinto exits the pit lane and immediately makes contact with Esteban Ocon at Turn 14. A messy incident between two teammates from Alpine. Stewards are likely to investigate. Damage to both cars is possible and could bring out flags.

Esteban Ocon handed a 10-second time penalty for causing the collision with Colapinto. The stewards place the blame firmly on Ocon. A costly punishment that will drop him down the order at the flag.

Fernando Alonso brings the Aston Martin into the pit lane and retires. Another car out of a race that has already seen extraordinary attrition. Aston Martin lose both cars today after Stroll retired on Lap 10.

Max Verstappen is out. After fighting tyre problems since Lap 6 and an early pit stop, the Red Bull finally gives up on Lap 46. A disastrous race for the three-time world champion who had nothing to show for a difficult afternoon. Red Bull leave Shanghai with zero points.

Kimi Antonelli goes deep into the hairpin and locks the front left, running wide and losing significant time. Russell closes to within 2.5 seconds. With 8 laps to go the lead is suddenly very much under threat. Antonelli will need to be careful with his tyres from here.

Lock Up Antonelli Locks Up at the Hairpin — Gap Slashed
Kimi Antonelli locks the front wheels at Turn 14 and loses 2.4 seconds in an instant. Russell, who had been 9.8 seconds behind, is now just 7.4 seconds away with 3 laps remaining. The race lead is suddenly under threat. Antonelli needs a clean final three laps to hold on.

Winner Antonelli Wins the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli takes the chequered flag to win the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix. Pole position, fastest laps and the race win — a dominant performance from the young Mercedes driver. Despite the Lap 53 lock up at Turn 14 that briefly brought Russell into contention, Antonelli kept his composure and held on. A second consecutive race podium and a first Grand Prix victory for the 18-year-old. Shanghai will remember this day.
