The Miami Grand Prix has garnered a lot of fans in a short span of time. Held at the Miami International Autodrome, this race is one of the latest additions to the F1 calendar. Despite that, it is already one of the most popular races on the schedule. With street circuits being rare on this level of racing, it has been a true refreshment getting to see racing in Miami for these couple of years. With another amazing race coming our way, let’s talk about a couple of things all fans of F1 need to know about this racetrack to fully enjoy the upcoming race.
When is F1 in Miami This Season?
Don’t worry, you still have time to get your tickets for the big show. The first practice starts on May 1. On the same day we also have sprint qualifying. The second day of May is when the main qualifying sessions are held. The main event, the race itself, is of course put on Sunday, 3rd of May. After five weeks without the world’s fastest caravan, we will finally have a race on our hands. Due to various unfortunate events in the Middle East, the F1 schedule had to be tweaked, but now after what was a long and unexpected break, we can finally get back to racing.
Previous Winners

The inaugural win fell into Max Verstappen’s lap way back in 2022. The Dutch driver and his Red Bull Racing team had been dominating the circuits at the start of the decade, and the street race next to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami suited both Max and his bolid. In 2023, Max was once more at the top of his game, and added a second triumph at the Miami GP to his collection. At the same time, Red Bull stopped their dominion in the constructor’s championship, and McLaren took over, the winner’s name at the Miami GP changed too. In 2024 the winner was Lando Norris for McLaren, while in 2025 his teammate Oscar Piastri took home the win. Based on the past winners it should not be a surprise to see one of the Mercedes drivers in George Russell or Kimi Antonelli win. Yet, we would give a fair chance to Max Verstappen too.
FIA Announce Miami Grand Prix Change
The break we mentioned earlier was not planned, and FIA is only now finding ways to help teams and divers adjust. Because of one of the longest breaks during the season ever, FIA has announced that the training session on Friday, May 1st, will be 30 minutes longer than planned. Usually, the drivers would get 60 minutes of training. This time around, they will receive 90 minutes to get themselves and their cars into shape for the upcoming race. In addition to the five week break, other reasons for why the training session will be longer lie in the fact that FIA added a few more regulations during the season, and of course the sprint weekend format used for the race in Florida.
Miami GP Vital Statistics
As we said, the first Grand Prix in Miami was held in 2022. The length of the track is set at 5.412km, and the current fastest lap record holder is the two time winner Max Verstappen, who achieved it in 2023 by completing one lap in 1m 29.708s. he is also the man with most wins by having two, while most pole positions number is also held by the Dutch driver with 2, but not the two races he won, as he had the pole position in 2025, but lost the race to Oscar Piastri, who wrote his name in history books by winning his first ever race there in 2024.
Current Form
With the way the season started, it is evident that this season Mercedes is the team to beat. Kimi Antonelli and George Russell are getting to the podium every race, and while the young Italian driver has taken more wins after the first three races of the season, George Russell still remains the favorite to be the champion at the end of the season. The two of them are expected to dominate in the Sunshine State too. After a slow start to the year, McLaren has done a good job on improving their cars during the break, and are expected to be the real contenders in the rest of the season. Oscar Piastri has a lot of things to prove after playing second fiddle to his teammate and reigning champion Lando Norris for the better part of the last season. At the same time Ferrari is a team that had a good start to the season, but are expected to fall behind Mercedes and McLaren in the next few races, while both Leclerc and Hamilton still have the highest of aspirations for the season. While no one sees Red Bull as a contender anymore, it would be foolish to forget about the two time winner Max Verstappen for this one, as he could bring havoc to the leading men after the Miami GP.
The Most Iconic Moment in The History of F1 Miami GP
As we said, it is a young race by the Formula 1 standards. Despite that, it had more than a couple of memorable moments to this day. In our book, the one that most fans still hold dear happened in 2024. We’re talking about Lando Norris’ first ever win in F1 that put his name on the map. A year later, he was already crowned champion. The Briton had been an up and coming driver for a while before his first win, and the inaugural 1st place at the podium was evading him in races and seasons prior. The Miami GP in 2024 was a sign from heavens that he’s destined for great things, a feat that he has proven in 2025 when he was the best driver of the year.
Miami GP Performers
Here, we’re not talking about teams and drivers. Instead, we’re talking about the entertainment programme that will be arranged in Miami before, during, and after the race. It wouldn’t be a Miami race without a little bit of fun. The entertainment will be world class, and the concert at Hard Rock Stadium held by famous Guns N’ Roses on April 30th is a prelude for what awaits us during the F1 weekend. During the weekend you will be entertained by none other than DJ Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal), Kane Brown, Zedd, Nelly, Marshmello, and Loud Luxury. The Miami GP on the first weekend of May cannot come fast enough.
