Within first minutes Kimi hits the wall in Apex of Turn 1, smashes his left front wheel and blows his tire out. Kimi tough that he can bring the car to pit for repair, but it was clear that its not only a tire issue. Since he was driving under unsafe condition Mercedes team asked him to pull the car off the track immediately.
Mercedes Engineering team suspects that steering rod was damaged as well during the impact and they will not be able to fix the car for Q2.
Kimi managed to set the time to 1:45.504 and he is hoping that other slower drivers will not be able to beat his time. If they dont manage to bit Kimi’s time, Kimi will start at POS 16. on tomorrows Baku GP.
This was his first major mistake after Australia GP practice session.
